As we welcome kids back to school for the 2022-2023 school year, let\u2019s learn more about the NSLP and its impact in the United States \u2026<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This program provides nutritionally balanced meals at little to no cost to school children during the school day. <strong><span style=\"color: #ee8723;\">It was established under the Richard B. On a federal level, the Food and Nutrition Services monitors and administers this program but on a state level it is administered through various state agencies who work directly with schools to reach agreements for the program. <a href=\"\/usda-increases-school-lunch-funding-amid-rising-costs\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ee8723;\">The USDA recently increased funding for school lunch programs to help combat rising costs<\/span><\/strong><\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ee8723;\">. <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #57575b;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/media\/press-releases\/2022\/07\/22\/usda-announces-increased-funding-school-meals-child-and-adult-care\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ee8723;\">estimated $4.3 billion<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color: #57575b;\"> bump will be essential for expanding the reach of this program in the 2022-2023 school year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #57575b;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Who is eligible for free or reduced lunch? <\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Children who are SNAP recipients or are foster, homeless, migrant, or runaway children are eligible for this program. Children can also qualify for NSLP based on household income<span style=\"color: #57575b;\">:<\/span> <strong><span style=\"color: #ee8723;\">children from families with incomes at or below 130% of the Federal poverty level are eligible for free meals.
